hi crew

I will be heading home in march to see the fam-dammly up in Whangarei in March, wondering what the wind will be like at that time of year. Keen to do a trip up north for a few days as well.

bring all my kites or will it be light big kite weather only.

Are you the ex-pat Kiwi, lost in Perth?

Wind should be OK in Northland that time of year, could be any direction/strength so bing you full kit.

Waipu works well in N/NE, also check out the estuary in the Waipu river mouth (Johnsons point road)

Ruakaka Beach/The Race course works in N/NE/SE. In between these two is the Ruakaka river mouth, not much water at low tide, but could be very good flat water spot mid tide and above.

Mair Road beside the the Refinery is good in a SE, but does get strong long shore currents at times. Also if the wind is very south it gets gusty and your run out down wind takes you right across the shipping lane to Whangarei Heads.

Marsden Bay in the harbour is VERY tidal, but on full tide this clean, sand bottom bay works well in NW/N/NE.

A little further up the southern side of the Habour there is a sand bank that is dry at low tide, AWESOME flat water spot in a NW.

For a SW head to Pyle Road West, not much room to rig and launch at high tide, but good riding from low tide. Can be gusty and choppy.

If you have access to a boat Snake Bank in the middle of the harbour is also a great spot in a W/SW. It works best at low tide.

Yep lost in Perth, been having our best season for a couple of years winds been very good. Hows windy christchurch been treating you.

So the harbour should be good for all wind directions, just have to watch the tides and currents. Do you get extra kick out of an oposing tide/wind? Nanaguru and Pataua beaches and easturies should be good on the right winds from what i can remember about surfing them.

Looking foward to getting a few surfs and kites back in at home, will try and get up north for a few days. Also be heading down to Whakatane for a few days.

he was dragged up up that way... luckily he moved down south

Yep - I grew up in Ruakaka, and my parents still live there.

I get back there a few times a year.
