2 of us are going on a kitesurfing road trip, leaving the 26th. up to taranaki until the 30th. taupo till the 2nd. then coromandel till around the 15th, and maybe the bay of island before or afterwards. can anyone give me us a list of spots to go to, contacts, and camp grounds?

the weather is all over the place, the regular kite spots being seatoun, lyall bay, petoni, waikanae, plimmerton and foxton.

I can offer advice 4 AK but it doesn't seem to be on your list of destinations.... :wink: :wink:

on your way past opunake, turn left at kina rd and drive to the end where you will find a toilet made from a converted water tank. this is one of the world's prime kiting beaches and works best in a NNW (starboard tack wavesailing on the north break) or in a SE (port tack on the south break).

this spot is one of taranaki's most consistent and you can camp there or at opunake close by.

there are many other spots further towards new plymouth and waitara about 20 mins north of the city. i will be in the naki on about the 29th so give me a call on 027 226 3203 and i'll tell you where me and a few mates will be kiting.

Good to meet you guys at Lake Taupo the other day.
We are back in Auckland with out any wind.. :cry:

Even though we only got one day kiting at Taupo it sure was good in 30 Knots !! I managed to fix my kite after hitting the tree (Dont start drinking too early as the wind might just come up !!). Not sure what happened with the other guy who landed his kite in the road. Thinking back at it now.. dumping your kite on Highway 1.. one day before new years is not a good idea.
