hi guys anybody out there, with an unbiased experience of these kites, i read lots of hype regarding best kites and as i am newish to kiteboarding its hard to make the right choice, and does anyone know how the waroo launches with only 4 lines, the rebel seems favourite because of the trusted name but is the waroo a good kite , and why are so many people rubbishing the waroo or is it just the branding thing, any advese would be helpfull , many thanks all.

Have you considered a cabrinha?

I ride the switchblade 12m mainly and i get out heaps, its got a massive windrange and i love the way it flys.

I think the answer really is that you get what you pay for, I have flown the Waroo 7 and it is "scary" quick (making the power very punchy) with the power rigged to the harness meaning there is 0 bar pressure, this makes it harder to control. The main issue with the Waroo is that when you over sheet it, it can will actually fly backwards in the window, this scared the crap out of me. All that said you could probably get hard and get used to it. Cabrinha switchblade is a much steadier kite with even power through the window, a good balance between bar and harness pressure, and wicked performance for jumping. The Cabrinha gives you a nice solid base to get out there and skill up without worrying about kite control, it will respond to everything you want it to do.

I have Waroo 14 + 9. I like the light bar pressure and good bar design, they seem to fly great for me. 9m is fast, I only had flying problems once when i had it oversheeted, soon solved that.

I have ridden Cab Switchblade 12, Naish Shockwave 12, and prefer Waroo over those. But the newer SLEs (Boxer, Rebel etc) were just coming out then.

HI, yeah you have to watch out with the 7m size Waroo, although its cheap to buy such small sizes it really is designed for screaming high winds and so flies very fast indeed and packs some punch if you whip it.

Unless your a real fly weight I wouldn't go for smaller than a 9m.
the 9m's and up are super smooth, fast and deliver some amazing lift.
The direct connect lines make it really quick too thats why there all flown on tiny bars ...45cm etc.
The speed of the kite is one of the biggest features with the larger sizes.

The new 2007 models are out now, most popular sizes being 13, 11 and 9m. 17m and 7m also available but more specialised.

Might make sence to take one for a good ride and see how you like it yourself.

a friend has 16 and 12 rebels

he's had no issues with them at all

really likes them and is boosting huge on them

i've watched them flying, they look good to me.
harbour boosting, sideways buggying, harwood speed gps'ing, sometime kiteskiing, wave/washing machine kiting, gear breaking, driving about chasing the wind....

I weigh around 75kg and am an advanced kiteflyer.
I have a 9m Waroo (2006), 16m AMP and 10m North.
Yes I am a kite slut, but when it comes to buying I go for a kite
that is worth the money.

I now only use the 9m Waroo, I am fortunate that I have two
boards so on lighter days I'm able to get out. Otherwise
I just do not bother with anything less than 12knots.
I have a 115 (small board) and a 118 (my big board) and yes
I am able to get going and jump in 12knots on the 118!

What the 9m lacks in size it makes up with speed on light days
and then when it blows I am still out while others are down sizing.

I have flown the earlier switchblades but then they had too much bar
pressure, I have not flown any of the newer versions.

I would also suggest look at Takoon though have not flown any but
they sure looked impressive, or it was just Johns abilities either way
worth a mention.

I would suggest if money is an issue go for a 12m Waroo,
not the Pro model, it will make you an extremely happy kiter!!!
I have been kiting for a while, so, do not twitch as much on those lighter
wind days, as I prefer powered fun to light wind tea bagging.

If money is not a problem I suggest going and having a demo of each
kite before buying. Kite flying can be like sex you either just doing it
just because it is there or you having a wicked ride leaving with a
big smile after every session, but your partner has to have the right
attitude and feel for you!

If however you are a beginner I suggest get a cheaper kite so your pocket won't feel sore when you making repairs

Welcome to the addiction!!!

there is a good reason there is hype around the waroo as it is a great kite.

have have owned the 2006 12m mow got a 2007 9 and 13pro

when your getting into sport big tendency is to get cheap shit gear off trademe and try and learn with that. all the new gear is just so much better pony up the cash get decent kite and some lessons.

build quality on most kites now (2007) is fairly good think Cabrina has sorted there issues now.

my reasons for going with best was that had no pullys on the bar last year and had the C kite feel to it. tried the shockwave and Xbow just didnt like the feel(not saying they are bad kites just wasnt right for me).

my advice buy a 12m approx SLE or bow kite try as many as you can find what is right for you, doesnt matter what others think or the local shop sells. you want a kite you are going to be stoked riding.

i still ride best and it aint cause they are cheeper!

so this aint a plug for you to buy a Waroo just saying get out demo some kites find what feels good for you.

best of luck

here is a link for the prices on the waroos

Go for a demo the kite will promote its self!

I would even go as far as to say; if a shop now days is not willing to give
you a demo they must have some reservations about the kite. Though you must be willing to accept cost for damages
if they do happen whilst you are flying!!!
